Monkeypox: Spain announces first death from disease in the country

The Spanish Ministry of Health announced on Friday 29 July that a first death from monkeypox had been recorded in this country. The death was caused by infection-associated encephalitis, health authorities in the Valencia region in the east of the country said.

The case is still being analyzed to determine the final confirmation of the cause of death, he specifies El País (in Spanish). In Spain, the country most affected by contamination in Europe, 4 298 cases have already been identified.

This is the second death outside Africa of a monkeypox-infected patient, following the death of a 41-year-old man in Brazil on Thursday.
