What’s the story behind Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course?
After facing the devil himself, the two brothers Mugman and Cuphead embark on a new adventure, this time to help the Legendary Chalice. This ghostly benefactress hopes to find her body and she relies on chef Lasalière to do so. She specialist in cakes of all kinds, she obviously knows her recipe to bring her back to life. But for that, she needs special ingredients found on a new watercolor island. To recover them, of course, it is not enough to go and collect them, but to defeat bosses, one harder than the other.
Who is the new playable character in this DLC?
The Legendary Chalice is not one who lets himself be saved without doing anything. It is she who will accompany Cuphead on this new adventure, under the name of Mrs. Chalice. And this new character brings with him new skills and moves. Ms. Calice can in fact perform double jumps and parry easier to make and has an extra hit point than Cuphead and Mugman. According to the feedback of those who have tried the game, her skills make Ms. Chalice a more accessible character and it could save you a good number of deaths.
Note that if you buy The Delicious Last Course DLC, you will be able to embody Mrs. Chalice in the levels of the base game. Something to relive the Cuphead experience from a new perspective.
Where is Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course taking us?
Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course accompanies us a brand new watercolor island. On this piece of land, five angry leaders, ranging from Esther Winchester to the chilling Mortimer Freeze. We should also find the episodes Run and shoot to breathe a little (in theory) between each garment. The studio promises us a particularly rich and interesting island to explore.
What’s new in this DLC?
In addition to the news involving Madame Chalice and the new island, this DLC also includes new charms. Therefore, the Heart Ring will allow players to regain a life point on the first, third and sixth parry succeeded. The Astral Cookie is what allows Madame Chalice to take on human form. As for the broken relic, we still don’t know what it can do.
Another little news: bosses work differently. Some will no longer just transform with each new stage. This time the furniture will change too. This is especially true of the fight against Mortimer Freeze which takes place in several arenas. Aside from that, we find the challenging and rhythmic gameplay that had made Cuphead a great shooter model. Also note that most of the bosses and other locations featured in the DLC were initially considered during the development of Cuphead. It is also to finally bring them to life that the MDHR studio was so excited to create The Delicious Last Course.
What is the length of Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course?
Based on the initial feedback, you’ll need around three to four hours to complete the DLC in a straight line. In fact, if the latter is limited to a single island, it is the largest ever built by the MDHR studio. It should therefore offer several side missions and will allow us to admire as many animated images as for the base game.
Recall that this was crossed in about ten hours. Add to that the fact that the DLC will be available for the modest sum of $ 8 (or less than $ 10) and you have a particularly profitable DLC.
A DLC as big as the base game? Which configuration?
If we’ve seen that The Delicious Last Course doesn’t have to pale in front of Cuphead, it makes itself felt on the minimal setup needed on PC. Therefore, the latter required less RAM than the next DLC. As for disk space, however, there is a more usual configuration with a DLC that requires half of the available space. Below is the complete minimum setup of Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course:
- Operating system : Windows 10
- Processor: Intel Core2 Duo E8400, 3.0 GHz / AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+, 3.0 GHz
- RAM: 4GB
- Graphic card: 2GB VRAM
- Disk space: 2 GB of available space
When does Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course come out?
Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course will be released on June 30th on PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and even Mac. Note that this is an interesting detail as the initial MDHR studio title was released on PC and Xbox One before hitting other platforms a few years later. To purchase it, you will have to wait for this date as the game does not benefit from pre-orders.
Why so much anticipation for this DLC?
Announced shortly after Cuphead’s release, The Delicious Last Course will have taken nearly five years to finally see the light of day. While it was significantly delayed due to the Covid19 pandemic, Studio MDHR executive producer Maja Moldenhauer made it a point of honor not to fall into crunch which nevertheless affects so many studies. As the DLC grew, the work required became more extensive and instead of forcing his teams to get involved, he opted for another way of doing things: work at your own pace and without pressure to let the creative spirit of developers and other artists speak freely. It is this state of mind and the desire to do things right that have caused this long wait, and it is therefore ultimately for the best.
If it takes longer to release the game, it takes longer. Who cares ? … It is art for art

What future for the Cuphead license?
With this DLC, a page will change for the MDHR studio. In fact, the title should no longer see the arrival of new content or a sequel. LThe raison d’etre of this DLC was the various works started that could not be implemented in the base game. Today nothing remains on the desks of the MDHR studio, not even a small sketch lost in a corner. However, the studio was founded to create Cuphead and has only had eyes for the title since 2010, so the question arises as to what’s next. It was with IGN that Maja Moldenhauer confirmed that this was likely the end for Cuphead, but that it didn’t mean the end of the study. Its members will continue to work on 2D projects with old-fashioned animations as they know how to do it right. We therefore can’t wait to see what they have in store for us for years to come.
As for the Cuphead universe, it’s not dead yet. In fact, the second season of The Cuphead Show will arrive this summer on Netflix. If all goes as planned, Cuphead, Mugman and Ms. Caline should therefore continue to charm us for quite a while. Recall that the creators of the series have in mind a project of forty episodes in all, divided into four seasons.
