Stranger Things star Joseph Quinn plays with Metallica

Stranger Things star Joseph Quinn was inducted into the legendary metal band Metallica as an honorary member after playing with the band at the Lollapalooza festival in the US.

On the show, Quinn plays Eddie Munson, a misunderstood metal fan who is forced to go on the run when he is wrongly accused of murder. In a pivotal scene, Eddie saves the day by playing “the most metal show ever”: Metallica icon Master of Puppets. Quinn sang the song himself.

On Saturday, Netflix shared a clip of the 28-year-old British actor joining the band backstage at the festival, where frontman James Hetfield invites Quinn to play with them in the band’s tuning room.

He describes the song as being all he’s heard for two years during the pandemic, as he waited for filming on the show’s fourth season to resume after the UK and US lockdowns.

During a question and answer session at the event, a fan thanking him for Quinn’s performance and the time he spent with fans brought the actor to tears. When 1883 Magazine ran a cover story featuring the star, its website went down for 24 hours.

In an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Quinn expressed surprise and relief at Eddie’s response. He’s said he’d love to play Eddie again and is open to returning, though he has no idea how they would go about it.
